Your gums can always heal over the roots and stay put however that leaves bacteria trapped and it will eventually cause infection and can end up being real painful. Your best bet would to have it removed now because the longer you wait, the harder it will be to extract and much more expensive.

Well, practically it can be left behind under the gums.

However the possibility of infection at a later date cannot be ruled out

Taking it out is a very very simple procedure. Therefore I would advise it to be removed.

When you lose a tooth is there still some bone deep inside the gum?

The root of a tooth extends under the gums and is anchored in your jawbone. When you have a tooth pulled, there is a hole in the jaw where the root of the tooth was. This is called the socket. When the dentist pulls the tooth out, there may be chips of bone left over in the socket. The dentist has to break the tooth away from the jawbone in order to make the tooth loose so it can come out. Sometimes when the dentist pulls the tooth out, the tooth can break and a little bit of the root can be left in the socket. The dentist will try to get this out by drilling down into the jawbone with the drill to loosen the broken tooth root. If the piece of root is too close to the sinus (upper tooth) or jaw nerve (lower tooth), the dentist may decide it is best to leave the piece of root in the jaw.

What does tooth replantation entail?

the dentist or oral surgeon will first administer a local anesthetic to numb the patient's gums. He or she will then reinsert the avulsed tooth in its socket and anchor it within the mouth by installing a splint made of wire

You are having 5 teeth pulled to be fitted for a partial is there a device to wear while gums heal?

Sure you can get an appliance called a treatment partial while your socket sites heal. Biggest problem with the treatment partial is that it will be bulkier than your final partial. I make them for my patients all the time while they are healing. Good luck.

How do you get bone fragments out of your gums after tooth extraction?

It is best to let your dentist remove these fragments. It is most likely pieces of a tooth rather than bone. Rinsing with warm salt water will help the healing of your gums. After a tooth removal, as the inflammation goes away and your gums shrink, some fragments may push their way through the gum. This is usually related to a tooth that was broken during its removal. Follow up with your dentist any time you experience something unusual after a procedure.
