If they are hydraulic they need to be pumped in oil first.

cause the lifters are not pumped up?
Which engine, 2.4 DOHC or 2.2 OHV ?? The 2.4L they MUST be spungy and NOT pumped up solid. If they are pumped-up they wont let the valves close and you will have serious damage.
Spongy brake pedal that can be pumped up to more solid pedal Brake fluid system has been opened for repair or part replacement Spongy brake pedal that can be pumped up to more solid pedal Brake fluid system has been opened for repair or part replacement
typically no it should be hydraulic lifters unless someone has changed the cam and lifters in the engine.
It's not recommended to change just the lifters. The cam and lifters should be replaced together. To get at the lifters, you can remove the rocker covers and intake manifold, loosen the rockers enough to get the pushrods out, then pull out the lifters.
No it should not. Your horses frog may be infected. The frog in a horses hoof is supposed to be softer than the rest of the hoof, but it should NOT be spongy.
Only if they are worn.
I have a mitsubishi galant 2003 and the hydraulic lifters are tapping. It comes and goes. Should these be replaced? Have the lifters adjusted.
its most likely your lifters tickin cuz there worn out / pumped out of oil replace them..... wont ruin motor just robs hp
Try bleeding your brakes. If there is air in the system it can give a spongy feeling to your brake pedal and require you to pump your brakes and/or put your brake pedal to the floor.
