Duke University
Until 1924 Duke University was called Trinity College. At the time the college was going bankrupt so a man named Washington Duke decided to donate millions to the school to keep it running. Trinity accepted the offer, but there was one catch; the college had to name the school after his last name. So "Duke" accepted the offer and that is how Duke got its name.
Petrograd was never changed to "Leninburg." It was changed to "Leningrad" in 1924 to honor Vladimir Lenin who had died on January 21, 1924.
