Rosa Parks is remembered as the mother of the civil rights movement. She was arrested, fingerprinted, jailed, and fined $14.00 in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama because she refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white passenger. Her courageous stance made it possible for African Americans to sit in any available seat on a bus intended for public transit.
Rosa Parks sued the city of Montgomery, Alabama, and won a large cash settlement.
