Politicians only approved the pork barrel spending to gain political support. They didn't approve it because they are for it, they did it so they can win.
The leaders of the American Revolution did not approve of the idea of political parties, but it seems they were inevitable. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were the founders and leaders of the first two political parties in the United States.
The term you are looking for is Zionism, but Zionism is not a religious movement and religious Jews did not start support Zionism (many today do not give the ideology approval even if they approve of Israel) until the mid-1930s and 1940s (whereas the movement began in the 1880s).
