Beowulf had no help he slaughtered Grendel on his own in the fen.
The warriors in Beowulf are a group of brave and loyal men who accompany Beowulf on his quest to defeat the monster Grendel, his mother, and the dragon. They are known for their courage, strength, and unwavering support for their leader.
Beowulf travels to Heorot because he learned that a great monster has been killing Hrothgar's men. He wanted to test his skill and bravery against Grendel.
Grendel, a monster associated with Cain, attacks the king's men who are celebrating in a mead-hall
Hrothgar's men are brave enough to fight Grendel when Beowulf arrives from Geatland and offers to face the monster. They were initially hesitant and paralyzed by fear until Beowulf's arrival instilled them with hope and courage.
Hrothgar didn't need Beowulf to fight him. Beowulf heard what was happening to his kingdom and came to help.
The monster, Grendel, is sneaking into Hrothgar's palace at night and killing all of his men.
Beowulf and his men travel to Hrothgar's kingdom to kill Grendel.
Beowulf and his men fall asleep in Heorot, Grendel comes into the hall and attacks them. Grendel devours one of Beowulf's men, Beowulf had been feigning sleep and jumps up and grabs Grendel's arm. The two have a long violent battle that nearly brings the hall down. Finally Beowulf tears Grendel's arm from his body at the shoulder. Grendel runs to the marshes to die.
I believe, the first to meet him, is the guard or sentry guy who guards the shore. When Beowulf arrives at the Danish shores, he is met by the watchman who questions his identity and the purpose of his visit. Beowulf introduces himself as the son of Ecgtheow, a warrior from Geatland, and explains that he has come to offer his assistance to King Hrothgar in battling the monster Grendel.
