A diadem is a jeweled crown worn as a symbol of sovereignty. The diadem in the Harry Potter books is Rowena Ravenclaw's and it was believed that it bestowed apon the wearer incredible wit. It was stolen by her daughter a long time ago and was lost. This is why the diadem is refered to as "the lost diadem of Ravenclaw" In the last part of the book, Harry and his friends believe it is a horcrux and contains a piece of Lord Voldemorts soul. Voldemort cannot die without all the horcruxes being destroyed so therefore, Harry needs to destroy the diadem. The only problem is that it is lost.
Harry does not get all of the horocruxes at once. He receives the first one in the second book when he finds tom riddles diary. He finds another one during the 6th book when Dumbledore has the ring on his finger. The locket is also found at the end of the 6th book. The rest are found spread out throughout the 7th book. Harry is the last and 8th horocrux.

Yes. He plays a major role in the death of Voldemort, as he helps Harry find the Grey Lady, whom Voldemort had wooed into giving him Ravenclaw's diadem. Voldemort went on to make this a Horcrux as he put a seventh of his soul into it. The Grey Lady is a ghost similar to Nearly Headless Nick, but she is the ghost of Ravenclaw as Rowena Ravenclaw was her mother.
Harry Potter finds the Lost Diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw in the Room of Requirement after thinking "I need the place where everything is hidden." It was perched atop "a stone bust of an old man wearing a wig and a tiara! It's standing on a cupboard..."This information can be found in Chapter Thirty-One The Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling. (Page 628 in the Scholastic edition.)
There is no such thing as a thinking cap in Harry Potter. However, there is something similar: the diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw, which we learn about in the last book (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). A diadem is sort of like a tiara. Rowena Ravenclaw -- who was one of the four founders of Hogwarts -- valued wisdom and knowledge above all other personality traits, and so she invented a diadem that helps enhance a person's wisdom. It works the same way a thinking cap does (or, would, if they existed): you put it on your head, and it helps you think better. There is only one diadem like this in the Harry Potter world. You could also consider the Sorting Hat one but it isn't technically a thinking cap. It doesn't help you think better, which is what a thinking cap is supposed to do. Rather, it peers into your soul and decides what House -- Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin -- you belong in.
Vincent Crabbe destroyed the diadem when he used fiendfyre (cursed fire) on it, while trying to kill Harry Potter (along with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger).
Well, actually Rowena Ravenclaw's magical Diadem was stolen by her own daughter - The Grey Lady - the ghost of Ravenclaw House. After that The Grey Lady flees. Rowena asks The Grey Lady's lover to go & find her but instead he kills her. But before that The Grey lady manages to hide The Diadem in a stump of a tree by magic. The Grey Lady's lover was The Bloody Baron - the ghost of Slytherin House. He finds and kills her, I don't remember why. That's the reason he has blood on his robes. Many years later Tom Riddle discovers from The Grey Lady the location of the Diadem, finds it and turns it into a Horcrux.
