Mattie matures during the book Fever 1793 by, when grandfather dies she gets more mature when praying for grand father. She then meets up with Eliza and finds Nell. She then starts caring for Nell and the twins. Mattie has become mature by not being selfish. Also she starts to run the coffeehouse with Eliza and Natanial. So without Mother. When mother comes home she weak so mattie has to take the moms job, to work hard and get up early, and the mother takes Mattie's job, to sleep.
