Finland's three "holy days" are Christmas Eve (December 24), Christmas Day (December 25), and Boxing Day (December 26). In Finland, Christmas Eve is the most special of the three. People will eat rice porridge and plum fruit juice for breakfast. Then they will listen to or watch the "Peace of Christmas" broadcast on radio or TV. Another unique tradition is that many families will visit the graves of loved ones on Christmas Eve. Candles in hanging lanterns are often left on the graves. In the early evening, a large, hearty meal is eaten, traditionally including lutefish (salted fish), casseroles, and rice pudding with plum jam. In the evening, families open their presents. Christmas Day tends to be a much more low-key affair, with families generally enjoying a quiet day together at home. On Boxing Day, most people get out of the house and go skiing or ice-skating.
