The Column of Trajan in Rome can be likened to a comic strip because it tells a visual story in a sequential manner. The continuous spiral frieze on the column depicts scenes of Trajan's military campaigns, functioning as a narrative that can be followed from bottom to top, resembling the format of a comic strip.
The frieze of the Trajan's Column illustrates scenes from the victories in battle during Trajan's two Dacian campaigns. The lower half depicts the first (101-102), and the top half the second (105-106). The column is 30 metres (98 ft.) in height, 35 metres (125 ft.) including its pedestal and 3.7 metres (11 ft.) in diameter. The scenes show the Roman army setting out to battle, fighting, building fortifications and listening to the emperor. It is crowded with the reliefs of 2,500 soldiers, sailors, enemies and priests. While these figures are stylised, those of the emperor, who appears 59 times, are realistic.
Trajan's Column, located in Rome, stands at approximately 38 meters (125 feet) tall, including its pedestal. The column itself is about 30 meters (98 feet) high and is adorned with a continuous frieze that depicts the story of Emperor Trajan's victory in the Dacian Wars. The structure was completed in 113 AD and remains a significant example of Roman monumental architecture.
