Loyalty helps the flock with their goal to stay free because if , for example, one of the flock members were to turn against the rest, they could tell the whitecoats of the rest of the flock's location.
Also, loyalty is important because they need each other to lean on when they're upset or need help.
And just the fact of knowing that they are all loyal to each other helps them to be able to tell or do anything, and helps them to think (or know) that they can get through anything with each other.
