The Senate and the Assembly.
"The New York State Legislature is a bicameral legislature, including the Senate with 62 senators elected every two years from 62 Senate districts and the Assembly, with 150 assemblymen elected every two years from 150 Assembly districts."(from their website)
The Senate and the State Assembly. Your welcome for the answer.
First, in June 2007, the New York State Assembly voted 85 to 61 to approve marriage equality, but the bill did not make it in the Senate. Then, in December 2009, the New York State Assembly voted 89 to 52 in favor and the New York State Senate voted 38 to 24 against. The bill failed. Finally, in June 2011, the Assembly voted 80 to 63 in favor and the Senate voted 33 to 29 in favor. The bill passed both houses and the governor signed it into law.
The State Senate is the "upper house" of the New York State Legislature and the State Assembly is the "lower house".
It has a 62 member Senate and a 150 member State Assembly.
After the New York State Senate passes a bill, it is sent to the New York State Assembly for consideration. If the Assembly approves the bill, it is then sent to the Governor, who can either sign it into law, allow it to become law without a signature, or veto it. If vetoed, the Assembly and Senate can attempt to override the veto with a two-thirds majority vote in both chambers. If the bill becomes law, it will be enacted according to its provisions.
The state assembly, the New York State Senate, comprises 62 state senators. About 25 of the districts include areas within New York City. In the US Senate, New York has 2 senators (like every other state).
Considered a bicameral legislature, the State's Constitution makes no such provision but does call for a 150 member New York State Assembly and a 62 member New York State Senate.
