It was a maiden named Iduna, keeper of an apple tree that extended life, and gave whoever ate it, lasting youth. The Aesir gods had to eat one of Iduna's apples every 10 millenia or so, or they would grow old and die. Even though the Aesir gods could die like humans, according to Norse myth, they could not be easily killed, plus, even without Iduna's apples, they could live 10 millenia. In other words among the Norse the concept of the "gods" was in fact a separate race of divine humanoids. No, please, lets not get into the ancient astronaut theory.

Besides, type IV civilizations on the Kardashev scale would not permit it! The Kardashev scale is something that rates the technological progress of a civilizations;

We are at late type 1, the Star Trek universe is type 2, Star Wars is type 3, while Superman's home planet of Krypton, was a late type 3, a type 3.9 civilization on the verge of becoming a Type IV planet. A type IV civilization has the entire universe as its playground, there is nowhere they can't go, nothing they can't do, additionally, among other attributes given to such races of aliens, they are generally portrayed in most sci fi as benevolent and wise, in addition to ridiculously intelligent by our scale.

A civilization can only advance to such a degree, when wisdom and ethics are commonly practiced; look at Japan and Korea. I am not saying they're perfect, but I am saying, they are more advanced than everyone else, because they are not douche bags like the rest of humanity. Africans kill each other because they see their own race as worthless. Arabs kill each other because, even though no Arab sees their race as worthless, each Arab is so arrogant, they think of themselves as if though they were god, one would think they thought they were, from the way they act, same with Ashkenazim Jews. Latin Americans, have an inferiority complex where they label EVERYONE as native American, even people who obviously aren't. Finally, westerners, white people, are sadistic killers, and where there are no nonwhites to be sadistic and cruel towards they turn on each other.

Now, tell me, what country would you argue, is more advanced, in terms of wealth distribution, and quality of life? Obviously Japan and Korea, with Korea being the better one of the two. How did they get that way? The application of ethics, hard work, and the more practical elements of Buddhist wisdom, taking actual wisdom seriously.

Now, if you took that a step further, that would mean that a Type IV civilization, would be akin to "paradise" by our definition of the term. If a civilization, a group of people is so kind hearted, so humble so wise, they are that advanced, there is no way in hell, they would allow less technologically advanced peoples, to abuse a primitive backwater planet such as ours. Hence, the ancient astronaut theory, is utter nonsense. They would not need to use violent methods either; all a Type IV civilization would need to do, is keep our very solar system, invisible to other alien races. Such technology probably does exist; do not allow limits by Physics types, to be imposed, because said limits are only imposed based on THEIR understanding of the universe, in other words no matter how crazy a piece of technology you can come up with, enormous as this universe is, odds are it exists somewhere, or maybe, something even better.

Of course I strayed off topic; my answer ends here. Sorry though the Norse Gods were not ancient astronauts because, like I said, it makes no sense.
