What is skynet?

AnswerIn the movie series Terminator, Sky Net was the AI computer put into service by the United States military to control its weapons arsenal, the computer became self aware and considered its creators as threats and brought about a nuclear holocaust and began its campaign to exterminate mankind. It created the Terminator series of robots to infiltrate human outposts and terminate all humans it finds. The closest thing we have to Skynet in real life is google.

In Terminator 3 does Skynet win?

SPOILER ALERT!In the short run, yes.Long run, no/maybe.At the end of T3, the robots succeeded in nuking the Earth, as changing the past in the Terminator movies seems impossible, due to paradoxes (this might not be true). However, the main plot of Terminator and T2 (although T2 does at the end say that the war was prevented) is not preventing the destruction of Earth, but instead making sure Connor survives, so that he will win the war against Skynet. T3 is about trying to prevent the war to save Earth and all its peoples, and therefore win the war. However, Connor and the Terminator only succeed in securing Connor's life by getting him to the nuke shelter. Other people survive, and in T4 (salvation) the humans fight Skynet. If there is a 5th movie, and the humans don't win the war, then Skynet win. If there is no T5, or the humans do win, then we win. If there is no T5, we can presume from the end of T4 that the 'prophecy' (or whatever) that Connor will lead the humans to victory comes true.

Why did John Connor not die at the end of Terminator 2 since the Future War would not have happened and Kyle Reese would never have gone back in time in Terminator 1?

Answer 1John Connor did not die at the end of Terminator 2 since the script writer wanted to leave people in suspense.Answer 2There are three main reasons I can think of:(1) We Make Our Own Fate: While Terminator 1 works in terms of Novikov self-consistency principle, i.e. past events cannot be changed, Terminator 2 does not hold to that. In Terminator 1, both John Connor and Skynet send back their own progenitors. John sends back his father to sleep with his mother. Skynet sends a Terminator computer chip to lead to Skynet's development. However, in Terminator 2, much of the premise of the story is escape from the requirement to "allow" the nuclear holocaust and future war. John's survival at the end of Terminator 2 demonstrates the success of their mission to end Skynet and divorce themselves from the requirements of time-travel. John chose to not "unexist" -- he made his own fate.(2) Unresolved Paradox Leading to Worse Future:John's survival creates an unresolved paradox. In order to resolve it, Sarah Connor should revert to being a boring waitress, all the people who died in the fights with the Terminator in both 1 & 2 should never have died, and John Connor should never exist. This would set up a world in which something similar to Skynet could be pursued without individuals in the present trying to fight it, leading to a worse future war (since John Connor's expertise came from years of training in advance of the war). Skynet would not have needed to send Terminators to the past since there would be nobody in the past worth killing. Thus it would have been entirely possible for the Connor's prevention of Skynet's creation to have backfired and created a Skynet in a world without a John Connor (which would be worse for humanity). To demonstrate that this resultant worse future could not occur, John is allowed to live, showing that the paradox is left unresolved.(3) Story Eraser: Over the course of Terminator 1 & 2, we came to love Sarah and John Connor and their fight to control and regain their humanity fighting the machines. We became invested in them. If John disappeared and Sarah became a boring waiter it would be a deep blow to the invest that viewers have in the character. As for Answer 1, it not make sense. Keeping John alive does not create suspense; it only shows one of two things (assuming neither of the other three reasons). Either his and the Terminator's attempt to prevent the future war and nuclear holocaust failed OR Kyle Reese was somehow hypnotized to believe he was from some future war and sent back to the past. Since the latter is far less likely, keeping John alive would indicate specifically that the future war was almost necessarily going to happen. We may be suspenseful about upcoming movies, but not the track they would go on. There was alternate ending where we see John Connor and are told he is a Senator in a future and there would be no suspense there, but the three-above reasons would still hold.

Who was the Terminator target?

Arnold Schwarzenegger (it's pronounced shwar-zen-egg-er.) He's the current governer of California and a former bodybuilding champion. Famous for his Austrian accent.'The Terminator' itself is a cyborg with a living skin around it sent by Skynet, a rogue computer network, to kill us all!!!

Who were the four shadows in room overlooking the prisoners coming into the skynet HQ in terminator salvation?

They are clues to where the next episode of the terminator drama will go. Terminator movies make money well enough, its just that they are produced only after a five-ten year waiting period - waiting for the speculation, nostalgia and real world comparisons of the Terminator story with the actual world we live in to come to a crescendo. So yeah, looks like humans are in on it. Actually, looks like a select group of individuals with a personal interest and agenda will be shown as behind it all... sic. the whole elite group, NWO, Illuminati, Alien invasion, 2012, etc, etc, programming making producing another movie to acclimatise us to coming world changes. Will skynet ever be destroyed?

no because it will not make money if the movie end once and for all so they have to keep it running if the makers want money

Is the terminator real?

no , but it could be possible. Scientists say that in 45 years a one thousand dollar computer will be able to exceed the mind capacity of the human race. I learned this in school. I started screaming "SKYNET.. SKYNET!" Well, we have a warning.
