Ceremony of One: Named and given to families
Ceremony of Three: Girls start growing their hair and receive their hair ribbons; both males and females start dream-telling each morning at breakfast.
Ceremony of Four: Receive a jacket with buttons on the back, to teach children interdependence.
Ceremony of Seven: Receive a new jacket with front buttons, to teach independence.
Ceremony of Eight: the comfort object given at birth is taken away, the children all start their mandatory volunteer hours, and they are given a new jacket with pockets and smaller buttons.
Ceremony of Nine: Receive a bike, females stop wearing hair ribbons.
Ceremony of Ten: Males get shorter haircuts and females stop wearing braids
Ceremony of Eleven: Females receive new undergarments, men get longer pants
Ceremony of Twelve: All Twelves receive their Assignment, or future career, stop doing volunteer hours, and begin training for their assignment.
In the ceremonies in December in "The Giver," each member of the community is assigned their future role by the Chief Elder. This is a significant event as it determines the course of each individual's life. They also celebrate the children who are advancing to the next stage of their development.
For children 1-12, there are ceremonies celebrating maturity and a year of life.
Kids go to a ceremony where they get assigned a job and they turn an age older (Example: 11-12)
