Doodle was found with his neck twisted and blood on his shirt as he lay face down in the mud, reminiscent of a fallen scarlet ibis. His body was discovered by the narrator, who had gone searching for him during a storm after realizing Doodle was not with him.

Doodle was found sitting on the ground, huddled with his face buried in his arms and his knees drawn up... When Doodle didn't answer Brother, saying "lets go Doodle", his brother placed his hand on Doodle's forehead to lift it. Doodle fell to the earth and his body lay very awkwardly with his head thrown back making his blood soaked neck appear long and slim. He had never before seemed so fragile to his brother.

Doodle died far away from home and alone, just like the Scarlet Ibis did.

I hope this helped.

The scarlet ibis?

the scarlet ibis was foreshadowing Doodle;s fate. Like the scarlet ibis, Doodle was out of place and didn't belong. He was different and special. The blood trickling down his mouth when he died was a reference to the scarlet feather of the ibis. the way older brother described doodle at the time of his passing was graceful. Like the ibis. also, the way Doodle neck hung back resembled that of the ibis. Lastly, they both died the same day, making their connection even deeper considering that Doodle was the first one to notice the ibis and the only one to honor it with a "proper" funeral.

Why did the ibis die in The Scarlet Ibis?

the scarlet ibis is sad because the brother has a brother named Doodle and throughout the story he is mean to him and pushing him harder to do things for selfish reasons. such as forcing Doodle to touch his coffin and teaching Doodle to walk because he didnt want a "crippled" brother. Doodle died at the end of the story because his brother pushed him too hard to do thiings such as rowing and Doodle died. what really broke my heart was whenever Doodle would say,"don't leave me big brother." Doodle was only 6 and his brother found him dead during a storm when he was trying to run away from him.
