That there is a delay is what happens when Dorothy tries to see the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the Wizard makes Dorothy, her pet dog Toto and their three friends wait a day the first time and at least four days the second. This is what happens in the original 1900 book edition by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919). But in the beloved 1939 movie classic, there is no delay other than the time long enough to announce Dorothy's arrival.
The Wicked Witch of the West
Dorothy Gale went to see the wizard.
In the book, Dorothy and her friends were admitted to see the wizard the day after they came. In the movie, Dorothy and her friends were dismissed until the guard saw Dorothy cry. He then admitted them to see the Wizard.
Dorothy Gale
Call in the Winged Monkeys is what Dorothy threatens in order for the Wizard to see the five friends in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the threat is made in the original 1900 book edition but not the beloved 1939 movie classic. Dorothy has the Golden Cap by which the Winged Monkeys are summoned to carry out three commands. She frightens the Wizard into seeing them because she warns that the Winged Monkeys will look into the Wizard keeping his promises to help the five friends
The songs 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road' and 'We're Off to See the Wizard' are what Dorothy Gale sings on her way to the Emerald City in the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz'. The Yellow Brick Road leads her to the Emerald City, where the Wizard lives in his Emerald Palace. The Wizard needs to be seen, in order for Dorothy and her pet dog Toto to be able to get back home to Kansas.

That she gets caught in the cyclone while bicycling homeappears to be what happens to Elmira Gulch in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, Miss Gulch is a character who appears in the beloved 1939 film version, but not the original 1900 book edition, of "The Wizard of Oz." The last we see of her is trying to bicycle while being carried through the air by the cyclone that lands Dorothy Gale and her pet dog Toto in the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz. She may assume the personalities of the Wicked Witches of the East and of the West in Dorothy's dream sequence in Oz. She therefore is killed by Dorothy's house landing on her or by Dorothy throwing water and dissolving her into nothingness.
That she demands to see the Wizard in the book and that she is sent by the Good Witch in the film are the reasons why the Emerald City gates finally open to Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, in the book, the Guardian of the Gates must let pass all those who demand to see the Wizard. But in the book, that information is not conveyed. Instead, the guard decides to admit Dorothy since the Good Witch sends her and she wears the magic shoes of the Wicked Witch of the East.
The message written in the sky for Dorothy and her friends was "Surrender Dorothy," created by the Wicked Witch of the West in the movie "The Wizard of Oz." It was a warning to Dorothy to give up the ruby slippers, which the witch coveted.
Don't forget the Cowardly Lion
The nameless Good Witch of the North is the first witch to whom Dorothy speaks in "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the Good Witch arrives with Munchkin well-wishers. She gives the Wicked Witch of the East's slippers to Dorothy and tells her to see the Wizard in the Emerald City about getting back to Kansas. She kisses Dorothy on the forehead, as protection against evil, and directs her to the yellow brick road of Oz.
