The text for the Spell card Polymerization (Poly) states:Send Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a Fusion Monster Card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard, and Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck*.

* Since the printing of this card, the name for the "Fusion Deck" has been changed to the "Extra Deck" and will be refered to as the "Extra Deck" for the remainder of this answer.

Poly is a special Spell card that lets you Special Summon a specific type of monster card known as a "Fusion Monster". Fusion Monsters can be identified by their card's purple backing. When a Fusion Monster is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck using this card, it's referred to as a "Fusion Summon". (Examples of other specific types of Special Summons include "Synchro Summons" and "Ritual Summons".)

Now to activatePoly, these three conditions must be true:

• You have Poly in your hand or face-down in your Spell/ Trap card zone
• The Fusion Monster you are trying to Fusion Summon is in your Extra Deck
• The monsters listed on the Fusion Monster are in your hand and/ or on the field. Some can be in the hand while others are on the field, all of them can be on the field, or all can be in your hand - any combination is fine.

If these three statements are true, you have the green light to go ahead an activate Poly. First, activate the Spell. Second, select a Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck you wish to summon. Third, send the appropriate monsters listed on the Fusion Monster to the Graveyard. And finally place your Fusion Monster on your field in face-up attack or defense position.

Just remember these other important facts about Fusion Summoning:

• Fusion Monsters only go in the separate Extra Deck and never go into your at least 40 card deck you draw from. If a Fusion Monster is supposed to be returned to the owner's hand or deck due to an effect, it is returned to your Extra Deck.
• The Extra Deck can only hold a maximum of 15 cards. This can be any combination of Fusion and Synchro Monsters, but their total must be less than or equal to 15.
• If there are cards on the field like Macros Cosmos that require cards to be removed from play instead of being sent to the Graveyard, you can still use Poly. The only difference is that the monster used for the fusion are removed from play.
