Really it depends on how big the pool is an average size pool is normally 25m so therefore you would have to do 3 turns, and a star and a finish. or if it is an Olympic size pool then you would do 2 turns and a start and a finish because they are 50m pools.
Hope this helps..x
LCM refers to Long Course Meet, as separated from Short Course.
Of course America is a free country so it has to meet the needs and wants of its citizen.
As far as I know, regulation dimensions for a short course pool is 8 lanes wide by 25 yards long. Long course pools are 8 lanes wide by 50 meters long. However, I have seen a lot of competitions in 6-lane pools, and some in 10- or 12-lane pools. One time, I went to a swim meet in a 4-lane, 20-yard pool, but that was pushing the limit.

The long whistle blow at a meet means to hop up on the block and be prepared to take your mark at any time.
"The Starter" in swimming is the meet official in charge of running the starting equipment. A meet start consists of one long whistle, telling swimmers to climb onto the block, the announcement "swimmers take your mark", and lastly a loud beep announcing the start of the race.
