The actual air exchange in the lungs takes place in the alveoli, which are tiny sacs at the end of the bronchioles. Oxygen from the inhaled air passes through the walls of the alveoli and into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide moves from the blood into the alveoli to be exhaled.
Alveoli- these are the small sac-like structures where gas exchange occurs with the blood. Its creates an ideal site for gas exchange between the air in the lungs and the blood in the capillaries.
The blood passes through tiny capillaries that lie in close proximity to the alveoli in the lungs. This is where the gas exchange takes place.
