Acetylene can not be stored inside a cylinder on its own as its properties will not let it be compressed above 103.5 kPa. To solve this problem the cylinder is filled with an absorbent material such as charcoal (asbestos in olden times) and acetone is added. The absorbant material absorbes the acetone and this acetone/solvent stabilizes the gas. I can not explain why but because of this the bottles draw off rate is restricted. LPG can be compressed on its own and because of this even as some of the gas is used enough pressure can be drawn for heating unlike acetylene.
Hope this helps
GASSES - Oxygen and Acetylene. Acetylene is sometimes replaced by a mixture of gasses. The Oxygen increases the burning rate/temperature of Acetylene and temperatures in excess of 6,000o F can be reached.
it smells either like oranges or Cherry's in my opinion, sort of a sweet smell
Calcium carbide is a chemical compound that is commonly used in the production of acetylene gas, a flammable gas with a variety of industrial applications. When mixed with water, calcium carbide produces acetylene gas through a chemical reaction that is used in welding, cutting, and portable lighting. The compound itself is produced by heating calcium oxide and carbon together in an electric furnace at high temperatures.
it is an alkyne that burns at about 3500 degrees Celsius, much higher then most metals melting point.
