It is believed that the mermaids or some called them sirens, used to sing to the sailors and lure them over towards the rocks and the ship would get crash and the sailors would drown but it is unsure if this is true. But it is believed that the mermaids/sirens would do this only for the purpose of seeing the men suffer but it is unknown what they did with the body's.

What makes a mermaid evil?

The bad acts of a few individuals has given the entire race a bad reputation. The most common evil act attributed to mermaids is using their enchanting voices to lure sailors to wreck their ships on reefs and other navigational hazards. This act was first committed by the sirens who are not mermaids at all but woman-headed birds from the Aegean Sea. Either the two creatures have become confused or they are linked by a common crime. As with all creatures of potential power, they are not inherently evil but should be treated with precaution for the harm they could conceivably do.
