Thousands had died of starvation in the reconcentration camps of Cuba and the Philippines and many more thousands would have died if it had not happened. It was essential to intervene and it probably should have happened many years earlier. Many also died in the Philippine American War which was a direct consequence of the Spanish American War. Hind sight is a good thing to use when studying history and perhaps it will keep people and Nations from repeating their errors, but it has never brought the dead back, and it surely has given little comfort to those maimed in the ravages of war.
