A story of creation from luzon?

User Avatar
The Creation Story from Luzon When the world first began there was no land, but only the sea and the sky, and between them was a kite (a bird something like a hawk). One day the bird which had nowhere to light grew tired of flying about, so she stirred up the sea until it threw its waters against the sky. The sky, in order to restrain the sea, showered upon it many islands until it could no longer rise, but ran back and forth. Then the sky ordered the kite to light on one of the islands to build her nest, and to leave the sea and the sky in peace. Now at this time the land breeze and the sea breeze were married, and they had a child which was a bamboo. One day when this bamboo was floating about on the water, it struck the feet of the kite which was on the beach. The bird, angry that anything should strike it, pecked at the bamboo, and out of one section came a man and from the other a woman. Then the earthquake called on all the birds and fish to see what should be done with these two, and it was decided that they should marry. Many children were born to the couple, and from them came all the different races of people. After a while the parents grew very tired of having so many idle and useless children around, and they wished to be rid of them, but they knew of no place to send them to. Time went on and the children became so numerous that the parents enjoyed no peace. One day, in desperation, the father seized a stick and began beating them on all sides. This so frightened the children that they fled in different directions, seeking hidden rooms in the house -- some concealed themselves in the walls, some ran outside, while others hid in the fireplace, and several fled to the sea. Now it happened that those who went into the hidden rooms of the house later became the chiefs of the islands; and those who concealed themselves in the walls became slaves. Those who ran outside were free men; and those who hid in the fireplace became Negroes; while those who fled to the sea were gone many years, and when their children came back they were the white people. In a nutshell... The Ifugao tribes of northern Luzon believed that the world was created by the Sun God during a cosmic war between the sky world and the underworld.

Asked in Philippines, Filipino Language and Culture

How do you preserve Filipino culture?

User Avatar
The best way to honor (preserve) your culture is by knowing your past. The word Philippines is the English version of Filipinas. The original name of the Philippines is Las Islas Filipinas named in honor of Rey Felipe II (King Philip II) of Spain. In reality, Philippine (Filipino) culture began when Ferdinand Magellan discovered the would be Philippines in March 16, 1521 -- prior to that date there was no Philippines or Filipinos, only a group of islands and islets inhabited by indigenous (local) people, there was no central government holding all the islands and people together in one cohesive manner. So if you speak of "Filipino", you are referring to the Hispanic (Spanish, Latin) culture of the Philippines, and the best way to preserve that culture is to learn the Spanish language and local dialects, history of the Philippines from 1521 onwards, read the works of Philippine authors, and see the works of Philippine artists from 1521 till the present. Remember, the history and culture of the Philippines did not start on June 12, 1898 (Independence Day), it started on March 16, 1521. In summary, know your history, be proud of your cuisine, language, traditions and beliefs, and be yourself -- that is the best way to honor your culture.

Are there elephants in Antipolo City Philippines?

User Avatar
I have visited Antipolo City 5 times now, each time for a little longer than before. I must admit that I have not seen any elephants or even any elephant "droppings" in or around Antipolo. I love Antipolo for all of the charm and warmth it exudes. The people are friendly, the city is reasonably clean, it is a great place to raise a family. I look forward to my next elephantless visit and some day I plan to relocate there with my wife.

What is the definition of go food?

User Avatar
Go foods are mainly composed of foods that contain carbohydrates, which give energy. Examples of Go foods (high-carbohydrate foods) are rice, cake, bread and noodles. Carbohydrates are essential in a healthy diet. Just remember, everything in moderation! Any carbohydrates that your body does not burn will be stored as fat. This is why it's important to incorporate a moderate amount of carbohydrates into your diet rather than a high amount.

What are the negative traits of the Filipinos?

User Avatar
Answer 1: they have a bad habits like smoking etc. Answer 2: Considering the americans virtually colonised the philipines during and after WWII I would assume that their 'bad habits' arise from that section of the globe. To even ask that question with regard to another race or ethnic group is at the very least in bad taste and shows ignorance of any equality issues. Answer 3: Wow, I hope that at least the asker, and the first answerer are Filipino, else the racism, here, is so thick it can be cut with a knife. What an ugly both question and first answer; and the second answerer's "bad taste" and "ignorance" accusation based on "equality issues" smacks almost of the pot calling the kettle black. In any case, Filipinos have no worse "negative traits" than any other humans -- certainly none, in any case, worth culling from the herd of the negative traits of any humans -- and shame on the asker for the premise of the question! To suggest that any race has inherently "negative traits" -- even only for as long as it takes to ask what they are -- is not only the epitome of racism, but it verily characterizes it. Such questions shouldn't even be asked... ...not because they're politically-incorrect (which, of course they are, but that's not the reason), but, rather, because they assume something as fact... ...sort of like the question, "so, have you stopped beating your wife yet?" assumes. Such questions can't actually fairly be answered. Period. Filipinos are Asians, no different at their core, than any other Asians; and all Asians are human beings, no different at their core, than any other human beings. They have no "negative traits" which any other race of humans don't also have. And it is not true that Americans "virtually colonized the Philippines during and after WWII" in any manner that would explain whatever some racist considers to be Filipino "negative traints"... or even positive ones, either. Filipinos have done an excellent job of holding-on to their rich heritage, not withstanding any American presence there. Whatever are Filipino "traits," are not inordinately influenced by Americans. Filipinos, in fact, are who and what they are in spite of Americans; and for a better understanding of that, do a little research on the Philippine-American War, and of Mark Twain's feelings and actions about it, and his concomitant writing of his thoughtful and moving "The War Prayer" in response.

What are the accomplishments of Emilio Aguinaldo as President of the Philippines?

User Avatar
1869-1964), revolutionary and statesman of the Philippines Emilio Aguinaldo consolidated a strong nationalist movement against Spain only to face a stronger opponent of Filipino independence, the U.S. government. Though initially aided by U.S. Navy and consular agents, Aguinaldo's provisional government became the primary obstacle to the annexation policy of President William McKinley after Spain capitulated in August 1898. Six months later, U.S. troops drove Filipino militias from and pursued them into the countryside. With his political council divided between accommodationists and die‐hard nationalists, and his regiments poorly trained and ill‐equipped, Aguinaldo's was perhaps a doomed effort. Nevertheless, he used guerrilla tactics and clandestine political organization to resist, retreating from redoubt to redoubt until his capture by Gen. Frederick Funston on 31 March, 1901. Accepting defeat, he swore allegiance to the United States and retired to his plantation. In 1935, he lost a bid for the presidency of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. After supporting Japanese occupation during World War II, Aguinaldo was imprisoned in 1945, but received amnesty. He died in 1964, a tragic but beloved hero. Aguinaldo's presidential term formally began in 1898 and ended on April 1, 1901, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States a week after his capture in Palanan, Isabela.
