A number of scholars have sought an answer to this question. They believe that, so far, there is no clear evidence outside the New Testament that this was the case.
No, there is no account in the Bible where Barabbas and Lazarus met. Barabbas is mentioned in relation to Jesus's crucifixion and release, while Lazarus is mentioned in the story of his resurrection by Jesus. Their stories are separate and there is no mention of them meeting.
The criminal who was released instead of Jesus is named Barabbas. According to the New Testament, during the Passover festival, it was customary for the Roman governor to release one prisoner chosen by the crowd. In a choice presented by Pontius Pilate, the crowd chose to free Barabbas, a notorious prisoner, over Jesus, leading to Jesus' crucifixion.
Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea at the time of Jesus' ministry and Barabbas was a convicted murder. Pilate offered to release either Jesus or Barabbas assuming the crowd would respond reasonably and ask for Jesus' release. The mob chose Barabbas, and they called for Jesus to be crucified (Luke 23).
Barabbas was not crucified; rather, he was released by Pontius Pilate in place of Jesus Christ. According to the New Testament, during the Passover feast, it was customary for the Roman governor to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. The people chose Barabbas, a known criminal, over Jesus, leading to Jesus' crucifixion.
The Jews asked for Barabbas to be released. Luke 23:18-19 tells us that, "The whole crowd shouted, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!" (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)" (NIV)
Matthew 27:26 said "they asked for Barabbas to be released". In John 18:40 we learn that "Barabbas had taken part in a rebellion". In other words, the crowd called out for the release of Barabbas, a thug, but this is believed to be because of a paid "claque" salted into the crowd by the High Priest, which skillfully brought the crowd to a frenzy for the release of Barabbas.
Pontius Pilate released Barabbas from prison, as part of a custom during Passover to free a prisoner chosen by the crowd. Barabbas was a notorious criminal, and his release occurred instead of sentencing Jesus to crucifixion. This event is documented in the New Testament Gospels, highlighting the choice made by the crowd.
After being freed instead of Jesus, Barabbas's fate is not recorded in the Bible. It is not known for certain what happened to him after his release.
It is difficult to know what exactly this question is asking. The disciples had no Barrabas. The only Barrabas in the Bible was the criminal released by Pilate at the behest of the mob when he offered them Jesus or BarrabasThe name appears 11 times in the King James versionMat 27:16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.Mat 27:17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?Mat 27:20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.Mat 27:21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.Mat 27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.Mar 15:7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.Mar 15:11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.Mar 15:15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.Luk 23:18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:Joh 18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
Barabas. His actual name in Aramaic is Bar-Abba meaning "Son of the Father", which is interesting because they had to choose between a man who was just called "Son of the Father" or the TRUE son of the Father.
Barabbas was the criminal who was released instead of Jesus, at the trial in front of Pontius Pilate. The gospels do not say where he was born, but Jerusalem seems likely. Another possibility is that Barabbas was not a real person. It was the practice of the Jews at the time of Yom Kippur to release one sheep which symbolically carried all the sins of the world and to sacrifice another. It has been pointed out that, in Hebrew, Barabbas means "Son of the Father" and that Jesus claimed to be the Son of the Father and that it was he who carried all the sins of the world. Some scholars suggest that this was an allegory to show that the Jews released the wrong "Son of the Father."
It wasn't Pilate who wanted to accuse Christ. He gave the people a choice: they could let Christ go and crucify a murderer, Barabbas, or they could release Barabbas into the general public and crucify Christ. The crowd decided to release Barabbas and kill Christ. Pilate actually washed his hands after, to show that the blood of Christ was on his hands, but on the hands of the people.
