In the book New Moon Bella only hears Edward Cullen's voice when she is being reckless or doing something dangerous.
EDIT : For the movie, they choose to make Edward appears for screening purpose I guess, to make people understand that she was really becoming crazy about it. So it's mainly just an adjustment for screening purpose :) nothing big but that's the choice they did to make people understand that.
It's still sad though cause it's probably making his comeback less... less surprising and HOT
