As she's leaving Innail in The Gift/ Naming Maerad packs the following clothing;
"two sets of clothes: soft leather trousers and warm woolen shirts and jerkins, well-made and practical, cunningly woven so they took up very little space when folded. Silvia had also packed some underclothes made of thick silk."

Towards the middle of The Riddle Maerad is kidnapped by Jussacks who were sent by Arkan to bring her back to his home, Arkan-da. Unfortunately, Arkan's place is on the opposite side of the continent to where Maerad is captured and it just so happens to be the middle of winter. During the long journey Maerad is drugged and has no control over her body and her captors are a little lax about keeping her properly covered up from the cold. As a result, she becomes frostbitten and a large part of her left hand has to be removed when she finally reaches Arkan-da. Ultimately, she loses all of her her pinky and ring fingers (as well as some flesh below them) and half of her middle finger. However, when she uses her magery she has a full hand made of light, this allows her to still play her lyre.
