The account you are referring to is found at : (Matthew 4:8-11) "...Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him." (NIV)

Jesus had just been tempted and tested by Satan the devil, and he was now warn out and exhausted. The angels were sent to build up and encourage him.

We can see this when we look at other accounts in The Bible.

(Luke 22:43) When Jesus was about to be put to death, he was praying fervently to his father "And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him."

We have an example of this angelic behavior in the case of Elijah, when he was running for his life from Queen Jezebel.(1 Kings 19:5-8) It tells us:"...Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. ..." (NIV)

The Bible tells us that the angels are "... Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"(Hebrews 1:14 NIV) and they willingly and lovingly lend their support to those suffering for righteousness.

And the Bible tells us that Jesus had lived in heaven for many centuries before he ever came to earth to die for our sins, (John 3:13; 6:38, 62; 8:23, 42, 58) so all the angels who came to strengthen him in his darkest hours were undoubtedly old friends. They stayed with him and built him up and encouraged him to stay strong and keep going through all the trials he had to endure,(John 1:51) until he could again be back with God, his father, in Heaven.(John 17:5, John 20:17, John 6:62)
