The first time is in the Season 1 episode, "Eternity," where a young actress tempts Angel to bite her and make her young forever to save her failing career. She puts a bliss-endusing chemical in his drink when he isn't watching, and he subsequently becomes Angelus once again. The transformation is only temporary, however, and the chemical's side effect wears off in time. The other time Angel loses his soul on the show is in Season 4, where he and his gang are desperate to defeat a monster known as the Beast. They discover that Angelus may have the ability to destroy the Beast. Hopeless and out of other ideas, the gang hires a shaman that removes Angel's soul and holds it in a container, so that when they wish the gang can restore it. Angelus does kill the Beast, but runs loose through L.A. and becomes the new primary target of Angel's team. With the help of Faith and Willow, Angelus is subdued and his soul is restored.
