There is no time difference between Maine and Massachusetts.
From Maine, it takes about 1 day and 2 hours to get to Alabama. Though, I think the time zones are the same.
The state of Maine in the US is in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST) which is also GMT -5. More: In the Military "Zulu" system of time zones, it is in Zone R (Romeo). This naming of time zones is also used in aviation, nautical uses, and ham radio.

US1 runs the length of the US east coast, from Maine to Florida. All those states are in the same time zone (Eastern).
There would be 34 time zones
one
You would remain in the same time zone and no other time zones would be crossed.
If you fly West to East or the opposite you'd go through 24 time zones. If you flew directly over the poles you could do it and stay in two time zones.

I am not exactly sure what you meant by putting this this way, but I will do my best. A time zone is a region on the earth where the time is different then all of the other time zones. For instance, if you live in New York, you would be in Eastern Time. If you live in Chicago, you would be in Central time, which is one hour behind Eastern Time. So in Eastern Time (most of Florida, New york, Maine, etc.), if the time is 12:00 noon, the time in Central Time (Chicago, Nashville, Louisiana, etc.), the time would be 11:00am. There are together 26 time zones around the world.
