in the state of nebraska how old does the child have to be in order to choose which parent they want to live with
Tell them how you feel. Unfortunately a child below 18 is not allowed to choose for themselves.
18- 20 after 21 your on your own
Usually 12-13 but it can differ between states. Just remember that you can tell what you want but they do not have to follow your wishes. in the end it's your parents deciding where you will live and if they can not agree it's up to the judge. You are not allowed to decide until you are of adult age. If you are in a foster home it's entirely up to the judge.
There's no state in which courts are bound by law to allow a minor to live where they want, and in pretty much all states courts will at least listen to the child's opinion. It's pretty common to not assign much weight to it before age 12 or so (figuring that the reasoning process of a child that young is likely to consist almost solely of something like "daddy gives me candy, I like candy, I want to live with daddy"), but even after that, the child's wishes are merely one factor that the court will consider.
Only if the courts found such an agreement to be in the child's best interest.
There really isn't an age, the child can tell the judge where he want's to go but that isn't always the way the judge will go but he will take it into consideration.
Yes, but do this through the courts.
An agreement would need to be filed with the courts.
Children that can speak for themselves have a lot of say in the courts as to where they want to live. It's best to sit down with both your parents and express your feelings and tell them why you want to either live with your father or your mother. Don't forget ... they are your parents, so you are going to hurt one of them by doing so, but it's important you live with who you feel the most comfortable with. Also, if you don't want to live with either parent you don't have to live with either one of them if it goes to court and if your grandparents were willing to look after you that can be taken into consideration in the courts. Yes, in some cases and it's up to the courts. For instance: If the mother of the child was pregnant and didn't tell you and you just found out and want to get to know your child and support that child, then the courts will probably move in your favor. However, if you just didn't feel you had any responsibility towards your child and moved on with your life the courts won't look too kindly on you and you WILL have to pay child support as you should. In West Virginia, a child can decide which parent they want to live with when they are 18.
