It happens on its own, and the only way to make it more likely is to research and upgrade "fertility." I've had a file running since it came out on shockwave.com and I still haven't had a single triplet birth. :)

Liar... I did that. It doesnt work. Your not helpful. The answer to that is well, theres nothing you can try. You have to just pray to God, hope, and also if you wanna know who has a crush on who, do rose, rose, rose for alchemy. Then you can have triplets, twins, or just 1. And you should do the following. Proven to work:
Pitcher plant, rose, lotus = making them fertile. Use 1 boy and 1 girl villager to drink the potion and make them mate and also watch your population while. If it changes then you will have a baby or babies

I agree with MermaidBFF. Shes so right. You really need to do thouse potions. Plus, when I first started playing I had a pregnant lady who had triplets. Well, my cousin works for LDW and so she helped me out with that. She made the rewards thing and she made the patch for cheats on VV3.
