It's readily available at modest cost. Cobalt is fairly common, and it is found in quantities that make it commercially recoverable in over a dozen countries. It does not appear to be in short supply. There is a bit of work involved in winning the metal, but recovery does not require exotic and grossly expensive processes. Cobalt is mined as an arsenide only in Canada and Morocco. In other locations, cobalt is recovered as a commercially separated byproduct of copper or nickel production. Cobalt is a necessary metal for modern industry. It has a wide variety of uses from an alloy forming element to a compound forming element that has applications as a pigment or a catalyst.
