Not forsure, But I think that it's the desert part of israel, the southern part.
The Negev Desert is part of Israel (not the other way around).
Desert-like Mountains

The Gobi Desert
The Negev Desert is in southern Israel. It's known as the "Negev". That word is related and derived from the Hebrew for "dry." In the Torah it's used as a synonym for "South" since in Israel the Negev is to the south.
The desert that fills the southern part of Israel ... roughly from Beersheva and south, filling the inverted-triangular part of the country ... is called the "Negev" (NEH-gehv). That's just the Hebrew word for "south".
