It was the only time during the Cold War that the United States tried to roll back communism by force.
The Korean War. The 38th parallel is also associated with World War 2. At the Potsdam Conference the US and the Soviet Union agreed that each would invade the Korean Peninsula to defeat the Japanese there. The Soviet Union was to attack from the North and the US from the south. They would both stop at the 38th parallel.
korean ,world war 2,vietnam,spanish- americathe ....... the answer is korean.....
The Korean War began when North Korean troops swept across the thirty-eighth parallel and quickly drove the troops of the Republic of Korea to the toe of the Korean peninsula, in June, 1950. This was a test of the Truman Doctrine, and the policy of "containment." President Truman had stationed American troops in South Korea and an American fleet was already in Korean waters. Thanks to the absence of the Soviet delegation at the United Nations, Truman got that body to sponsor a "police action" in Korea to push the North Koreans back across the thirty-eighth parallel. The US made up most of the "police" in Korea
The Korean War proved that the free world could stop/contain communism.South Korea today, is a vibrant successful free nation, with a modern society that can compete in the world of high technology PRODUCTS such as aircraft, automobiles, computers, watercraft, radios, television, and other communication products.

The US made up most of the "police" in Korea. During the next presidential campaign, the Republican candidate Eisenhower promised to go to Korea and end hostilities. Eisenhower won the election and before he was inaugurated he went to Korea. He threatened to use atomic weaponry to end the war. That was probably a bluff, but it convinced the North Koreans to end hostilities in July, 1953. Korea returned to its previous division at the thirty-eighth parallel. The war did prove to the communist nations that the US was willing to defend its policy of containment and prevent any spread of communism, any where on the planet.
