Jack's and his tribe first try to drive Ralph from his hiding place in the thicket by sending a boulder crashing into it. When this tactic fails Jack then tries to smoke Ralph out of his hiding place by lighting a fire. Ralph makes his way out of the opposite side of the thicket by surprising and stabbing a 'savage' who is on guard. Ralph runs for it and the savages spread out across the island signalling to each other. Ralph tries hiding again, this time in Simon's secret place but is spotted by another savage, who he attacks and stabs with his spear. The fire which Jack lit soon spread out of control and set fire to most of the island. Ralph ended up stumbling onto the beach, with Jack's tribe in hot pursuit.

Under torture Samneric had revealed Ralph's plan to hide in the thicket. Initially Jack and his tribe rolled a boulder from the top of Castle Rock in an attempt to either kill, injure or drive Ralph out of his stronghold. When that plan failed they decided to smoke Ralph out, unfortunately for the hunters their fire quickly got out of control and threatened to burn the entire island. Once Ralph had broken cover and had made a run for it the tribe put into place their next tactic. This was to spread out across the width of the island and keep contact with each other by making a calls.
The irony of Samneric's behavior lies in their initial willingness to join Jack's tribe, betraying Ralph's leadership to ensure their own safety, only to later regret their decision and try to return to Ralph's group when faced with the violence and savagery of Jack's tribe. Their loyalty proves fickle and their inability to make a firm decision ultimately leads to their downfall.
Ralph never really tries to get rid of jack, he just doesn't approve of some of his ideas. later on in the book (ch.11) Ralph and Jack fight and Jack tries to murder Ralph (ch.12)by sending his tribe after him and setting some of the island on fire. I hope you read the book already. I don't want to ruin it for you!

In chapter 11 of "Lord of the Flies," Ralph tries to talk to Jack's tribe about the signal fire and the need for proper shelter.
