In what ways did state constitutions contribute to the growth of democracy between 1800 and 1840?

New states in the west allowed suffrage for all white males regardless of property. SInce some older states felt threatened (more people would move to the west, in effect changing the number of representatives for the house), they also started eliminating voting property requirements. Thus, contributing to the growth of democracy.
