How a bendix functions?

The Bendix is part of the electric starter motor (or starter). Your starter in your car is basically a little electric motor that begins to turn the flywheel on an internal combustion engine. When you turn your cars ignition "on" (turn the cars' key), you send current from your battery to your cars solenoid. The solenoid takes the current and sends/converts it to a little -but very strong electromechanical motor. This current flows from the solenoid to the starer and travels into the Bendix, which is the gear piece on actual electric motor. It is made of strong forged steel about the size of a wedding ring, but about an inch thick. This Bendix wheel has deep "teeth" on it that form a gear. When the Bendix is activate, it travels from the housing of the electrical motor to the cars flywheel (the flywheel turns the internal combustion engine). The Bendix gear meshes with the flywheel like the gears on a giant clock. The strong little Bendix turns the large flywheel, and starts the engine in motion. Once the engine is in motion, all that is needed is air, gas/fuel and spark. If you ever saw an OLD car from the 1920's, you'll see a person CRANKING the engine from the front of the car while the driver operates the ignition. The person turning the engine is essentially the Bendix. This is also why you don't necessarily need a started for a manual shift car. If you push a car, you can pop the clutch and essentially put the flywheel in motion without ever having a starter- you just have to be really strong or park facing down hill. I hope that's not too much information. Bendix is a brand name, the part is called the starter drive.

What Replacement master cylinder for 1961 Buick?

1961 Buick full size line of car's [lesabre invicta electra] use either a bendix or delco style master cylinder. The easiest way to make sure you are ordering the correct part is to remove it and take it apart. You will need to measure the cylinder bore and get the part number from the unit to make sure you get the correct part. You can get this part and other's from Kanter or C.A.R.S inc. I am in the prosess of redoing a 61 invicta and have found both of these companie's very helpfull. Good luck on your ride. Andy

Why is your 1985 5.0 gt mustang killing starter solenoids weve changed the starter and ignition and the solenoid itself 6 times all there is left is a wire box at the bottom of the steering column?

That's not quite true. It is also necessary to properly shim the starter versus the block. Failure to do so can result in insufficient clearance between the bendix gear and the flywheel gear, damaging the bendix. (Which is part of the solenoid)You either need to put the same shims in that you found when you first pulled the starter or, more correctly, you need to take the flywheel cover off and measure the minimum clearance between the gears. You will need to manually pull the bendix out to do that - but don't forget to disconnect the battery or the engine will crank - and shim the starter accordingly. Auto parts stores and dealers do stock these shims. If you are attuned to it, you can hear when there is insufficient clearance, because there will be a specific cyclic grinding sound when you crank.

You changed front brakesrotors 1 yr ago why are your rotors shot but brakes fine?

it's called "white box"parts. off brand parts are made with inferior metal. they tend to wear out very fast. if you can't afford the name brand part, they can get you going but you usually will have to replace them faster. I have had to use them in the past but always recommend the name brand. you will go through 2 for 1 with "white box" parts. I recommend "Bendix" brake parts.

How can you improve your jumping position?

try doing some exercises that involve jumping without stirrups or jumping without hands (tie reins and stick your arms out like an airoplane) if you have trouble feeling when your horse will take off try some grids with your eyes closed. These exercises will help you feel the horse's movements and enable you to move naturally on the horse. If you are more advanced and are more technical, have someone videotape you riding. This way you can focus on what needs to change with each body part. Remember not to fall into bad habits! Proper practise makes perfect!
