Hawaii became the Territory of Hawaii in 1898 by issue of the Newlands Resolution. It became our 50th state in 1959.
The Kingdom of Hawaii was purported to have been annexed to the United States of America on January 17th 1898 by an act of the American Congress, known as the Newlands Resolution. Acts of congress are limited and do not extend past Territorial Boundaries to other sovereign nation states, hence making Hawaii's alleged annexation questionable.
Hawaii became part of America on August 21, 1959, the 233rd day of the year (234th in leap years) Hawaii was annexed as a US Territory by Act of Congress in 1898.
The US did NOT buy Hawaii, instead, they stole it from the Hawaiian Kingdom by means of an armed military overthrow. The Queen of Hawaii was imprisoned because she refused to cooperate with the United States government.

1949
In 1787, Congress banned slavery in the new northwest territory. The territory included the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. By prohibiting slavery in the territory, it made the Ohio River the boundary between slave and non-slave states.
It was officially enacted on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The Oregon Territory was founded by Congress on August 14th, 1848. Oregon became a state on February 14th, 1859.
