Because they like to pray at the mother of Water
Loi Krathong is a lantern festival in Thailand. "Loy" means "float" and "Krathong" is a little boat (or a small float) made from banana leaves. So "Loy Krathong" is roughly "float banana leaf boats". On the Full Moon of the 12th lunar month.Water overflows the banksWe all, men and womenHave a lot of fun on Loy Krathong DayFloat, float the banana leaf boats*Float, float the banana leaf boats*After we float our banana leaf boatsI invite you darlingTo come out and dance the Ram Wong**Dance the Ram Wong on Loy Krathong DayDance the Ram Wong on Loy Krathong DayGood merit*** brings us happinessGood merit brings us happiness. The English version below is more of a Thai English version than a direct translation. Loy Krathong is the Festival of Floating Bowls. The bowls are made of leaves.
in Thailand we have 2 festivals are 13-15 April is Songkran festival Day and 10 November is Loy Krathong Festivals Day.
Other customs Loy Krathong has about doing certain things to make wishes come true include prayers, meditation, and burning candles. It is said that these will aid the process but have never been independently verified.

= What are some of the celebrations that Buddhists celebrate? = == == Buddhism is practiced in many countries, which have different cultures, so holidays vary from country to country. One holiday most Buddhists celebrate is the Buddha's birthday, which falls in the spring. The actual day is determined by the lunar calendar, so it varies from year to year. In 2008 it should fall on 12 May. You can learn more about holidays celebrated in predominantly Buddhist countries here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Buddhist_holidays
