When was the first Christmas card printed?

The first Christmas cards were commissioned by Sir Henry Cole. Illustrations were done by John Callcott Horsley in 1843. Although there was some controversy over the scene depicted in the card (the family was shown drinking), Cole saw this as a moneymaking idea.
