Some great Christmas records have been made over the years. It is commonly believed that Bing Crosby's White Christmas is the biggest selling Christmas record of all time, but in fact it has been outsold by a number of other records: Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas", Boney M's "Mary's Boy Child" and Wham!'s "Last Christmas" being 1, 2 and 3 respectively with White Christmas a lowly 7th according to the Official Charts Company website. For many though, whatever the numbers say, Bing Crosby's White Christmas will always be the biggest Christmas hit ever.
Yes! In 1942 the song was number one for eleven weeks on the charts. It was also in the #1 spot during the holidays of 1945 and 1946.
Mr. Autry recorded a number of Christmas songs. the best known is his version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. On some Christmas charts, this places #2 right behind White Christmas. I think the highest ranking religious Christmas song is around #l0 on the list. a sorry commentary on Clausism.
There's many songs that celebrate the Christmas holiday. But, unless the record chart history has changed, there's only 1 Christmas song that hit #1 on the charts. That would be pop artist Bing Crosby, with the song "White Christmas." Bing introduced the song to the world by singing it in the movie, "Holiday Inn," back in 1942. Now, many artists in various fields of music, including country, have release Christmas music. Many have been hits on various charts. But, I don't know of anybody that has passed Bing Crosby, in having a Christmas single to hit #1 on any chart ~ including the country charts.
