Anywhere on the skin, even in places which get no sun. A primary lesion usually starts with an existing mole changing in colour , or becoming mottled, or growing in size, or developing irregular edges . All moles should be monitored for changes. There are other types of melanoma that start in the eyes or in the gut. In one in 10 cases , no primary lesion is found on the skin, and this can mean that one has gone unnoticed, and regressed, moving on to a secondary site such as lymph nodes (stageIII) or to internal organs (stageIV)
