Tap water is generally potable water, able to be used for cooking and drinking (this depends on the country and area you live in). Grey water is used water ie washing water that is let down the drain, again this is dependant on the country and area you live in . Many people are using grey water for plants or in some cases purifying it again for drinking
We don't necessarily need to live by water to survive but it is extremely useful. Firstly, drinking water is vital for any animal's survival (and our's too). Secondly, plants and crops can be grown in large numbers near water because, around water, soil is considerably more fertile and helps the plants/crops to grow healthily. Thirdly, water is home to fish and we can eat them.

Fish live in the sea, oceans, and rivers. That is they live in water. They use the oxygen in the water to breathe and survive. They don't have legs. Instead, they have fins to move around the water. As far as what they eat, it could vary from plants to other fishes.
If you live in Duluth, Minnesota, or Thunder Bay, Ontario, your drinking water probably comes from Lake Superior. However, if you live in Los Angeles, California, or Edmonton, Alberta, then your drinking water does not come from Lake Superior.
