If you're a freelancer who doesn't like the idea of bouncing around between several job boards and platforms to find work, then Upwork could be worth your time. Part of Upwork's popularity comes from the fact that it streamlines the freelance job hunting process.
To become a freelance and make money using Upwork, a popular online freelancing platform where hundreds of jobs are posted each day. It is also largest online workplace where savvy businesses and professional freelancers go to work.
Yes, there are a lot of reliable virtual assistants you can hire. You can find them in freelancing websites such as Upwork, OnlineJobs.ph, and even LinkedIn.
If you are a good designer, you can start charging anywhere between $25 to $50 even on websites like Upwork and Elance. If you open popular freelance job boards, you will see there are designers willing to work for as little as $5 or $10 per hour.
UpWork doesn't charge an upfront fee for each job that you take like Freelancer does. I tried Freelancer. I hated it. I tried UpWork (formerly known as oDesk) and I love it. I also freelance on Elance, which will soon merge with UpWork in the coming months. Instead of charging you and upfront fee, basically Upwork will deduct 10% of your gross earnings per project for their fee when the client pays you via your UpWork account. It isn't as bad as it sounds. If you know that you want to earn a certain amount, then take that 10% into account before you place your bid or set your hourly rate. However, keep in mind that if you are new to freelancing and particularly if you don't have the formal education or expertise to back you up, if you set your rates too high, you're going to have a much harder time finding work. Freelancing on most, if not all, of the websites like UpWork involves competing with other freelancers on a global platform. Some of these freelancers can afford to live off of what I would consider horrendously low wages, but that's because their economy may differ from your own. I'm not suggesting undercutting yourself, but it is something to consider. Besides, as you gain experience on UpWork along with high ratings from your clients, you can always slowly increase your rate to something that is more suitable. When it comes to finding work on UpWork, keep in mind that nothing is instant. Sure, you might get lucky and get a project right away, but don't give up if you don't. It took me 2 weeks to land my first gig on UpWork when I began. I bid on multiple projects each day every day of the that first two weeks. With that said, if you truly want to freelance, don't give up. There are lots of freelancing opportunities out there. All you need to do is seek them out and be patient. Once you get started, assuming you put in 110% effort each and every time, it won't take long for the jobs to start flowing to you. 14.9K viewsView 22 upvotesView 1 shareAnswer requested by Siddhant Sharma and Bilal Hijazi Sponsored by CircleCI
