If it's configured properly yes it's safe.

It becomes unsafe if you do not use any form of security. Having no security lets other people connect to your network and steal bandwidth, or (worse!) screw up your entire system and steal stuff like credit card numbers.

In what regard are you questioning safety? Wi-fi won't irradiate you or make your skin turn green if that's what you are worried about. From a computer security standpoint, Wi-fi is reasonably safe to use if it is on a password-protected network with WPA encryption; thus no one can access the files on your computer. yes

Watch Out for Wi-Fi?

When you're traveling for business, the last thing you want is to lose valuable trade secrets to a hacker. Still, you need to be able to stay in touch with your company. Business travellers often look for hotels with Wi-Fi service, but that can be a big mistake. Since Wi-Fi signals are so easy to eavesdrop on, it's not safe to use Wi-Fi unless you know how to properly encrypt your messages. For better mobile security, you will want to look into encryption technology, or stop using Wi-Fi.
