∙ 9y agoIn a way, yes. V.C. Andrews was in the hospital for a spinal operation when she was young and developed a crush on her young doctor. She either overheard the story or he told her the story of how he and his siblings were locked in an attic for 6 years to preserve the family's wealth. It is uncertain how much of the story is based off of this truth, but it is believed that she took the part of "children being locked in an attic to preserve family wealth" and wrote her story around it. She also cut back the time in her book to make it more believable.
