ce and bce or bc and bce
CE stands for common era. It is, in simple terms, the same as AD. In following with this, there is BCE, or before common era, which is the same as BC.
The years between are the years from 249 BC to 1BC, and 1AD to 249AD, ie. 498 years.
CE is Common Era, it's the same thing as AD (Anno Domini) BCE is also used instead of BC We are in the year 2009 AD and 2009 CE.
500 bc
BC means Before Christ AD means Anno Domino CE means Common Era
It is recognized that many historians chose to use CE instead of AD. Or in some cases both are used such as 500 CE/AD. In either case, 600 CE/AD came after 500 CE/AD.
It is identical to BC and AD. It is used as a politically correct version, to avoid offending non-Christians who are not comfortable directly referencing Jesus Christ. BCE = Before Common Era = BC CE = Common Era = AD
