666 is reportedly the "number of the beast" significant to Christians and pertaining to the devil. He will or will not show up as he and the Christians believe.

The whole "world is going to end in 2012" is based loosely on rather vague interpretations of predictions by Nostradamus and the coincidence of the Mayan calendar ending next year.

- Nostradamus' predictions can and have been interpreted with great success, however only by looking at the past and making it fit the prediction. I personally wouldn't worry too much about that.

- The Mayan calendar thing is a wonderful misconception of modern people. The Mayan calendar is cyclical. It repeats itself continually, the only reason the one people are referring to now had a limit, was because the creators ran out of rock.

You would not believe the world was going to end every New Year, just because you had to throw out your old calendar and put up a new one. Same for the Mayan calendar.
