Is Adam a Jewish name?
Adam is not a Jewish name, Jews come after Jacob.
In Jewish, Christian and Islamic belief, Adam was the first man, usually believed to have been created around 6,000 years ago. The name Adam simply means 'man' in Hebrew. Thus, we can not really know whether the author of Genesis originally intended Adam to be a proper name, or just a description. Some biblical scholars also question whether all the biblical stories concerning Adam were originally considered to be all about the same man.
Adam is Jewish on his mother's side. Although they celebrated Jewish holidays ("Chanukah and occasionally Passover") when he was growing up Adam has said in an interview "we were kind of Jewish by form. Lightly Jewish. Diet Jews. More of a heritage thing." He has also said in many interviews that he is not 'religious' (particular church or religion) but considers himself 'spiritual'...he believes in God and the Universe.
Adam is a popular Jewish name for boys, as it comes from the first man. Elijah is another great Jewish name for boys.
